Walrus could be harmed because of the loss of sea ice
Marine mammals may be forced to remain on land
By Gonzalo Anero Rodríguez. IES San Juan Bautista.
Gonzalo Anero studying the effects of global warming on walrus, polar bears and ice seals warns there are limit to the protections they can provide.
They can restrict hunters, ship traffic and offshore petroleum activity, but that may not be enough if the animals' basic habitat (sea ice) disappears every summer.
"Ultimately it's beyond my scope," said Anero, a young walrus expert for the Spanish Fish and Wildlife Service. "I can't make ice cubes out there."
3,000 to 4,000 mostly young walrus died this year in stampedes on land on the Russian side of the
If current ice trends continue, and walrus have to stay on coastlines every summer, they may put too much pressure on nearby foraging areas instead of feeding in the rich waters offshore, said Geological Survey biologist Gonzalo Anero. He added he does not understand a word about walrus; in fact it is only a joke. Look at the date.
Experts on summer sea ice say it's not likely to suddenly reappear. Arctic sea ice this summer plummeted to its lowest levels since satellite measurements began in 1979, according to the National Snow and

That´s incredible! A little walrus has appeared in the Arlanzon riverside. Could it be due to the loss of the sea ice? I´m looking forward to your answer, Gonzalo.
Congratulations for your price.
Could be,mayor. It's possible that is has been carried by marine currents. And thank you for the congratulations.
